[00:01.80] I walked through a county courthouse square
[00:05.39] On a park bench, an old man was sittin' there.
[00:08.26] I said, "Your old court house is kinda run down,
[00:11.58] He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town".
[00:15.49] I said, "Your old flag pole is leaned a little bit,
[00:19.06] And that's a ragged old flag you got hangin' on it".
[00:22.44] He said, "Have a seat", and I sat down,
[00:26.04] "Is this the first time you've been to our little town"
[00:29.64] I said, "I think it is"
[00:31.25] He said "I don't like to brag, but we're kinda proud of that ragged old flag"
[00:40.49] You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
[00:43.74] When Washington took it across the Delaware.
[00:46.31] And It got powder burned the night Francis Scott Key sat watching it
[00:53.77] Writing "Say Can You See"
[00:58.42] It got a bad rip in New Orleans, with Packingham & Jackson
[01:03.72] Tugging at it's seams.
[01:06.04] And it almost fell at the Alamo
[01:09.66] Beside the Texas flag,
[01:11.27] But she waved on though.
[01:15.70] She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville,
[01:18.48] And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
[01:22.42] There was Robert E. Lee and Beauregard and Bragg,
[01:25.83] And the south wind blew hard on that ragged old flag
[01:31.88] On Flanders Field in World War I
[01:35.58] She got a big hole from a Bertha Gun
[01:39.90] She turned blood red in World War II
[01:42.80] She hung limp, and low, a time or two
[01:46.66] She was in Korea, Vietnam, she went where she was sent
[01:53.53] By her Uncle Sam
[01:55.66] She waved from our ships upon the briny foam
[01:59.12] And now they've about quit wavin' back here at home
[02:04.15] In her own good land here She's been abused
[02:07.25] She's been burned, dishonored, denied an' refused
[02:11.69] And the government for which she stands
[02:15.27] Has scandalized throughout out the land
[02:17.86] And she's getting thread bare, and she's wearin' thin
[02:20.68] But she's in good shape, for the shape she's in
[02:25.16] Cause she's been through the fire before
[02:28.13] And I believe she can take a whole lot more
[02:32.01] So we raise her up every morning
[02:34.55] And we take her down every night,
[02:36.34] We don't let her touch the ground,
[02:37.49] And we fold her up right.
[02:42.55] On a second thought
[02:44.69] I do like to brag
[02:47.12] 'Cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag
[02:52.68]
