[00:06.23] In New York city just walking the street
[00:09.55] Ran out of money had nothing to eat
[00:13.25] I stopped at the Plaza, that fancy hotel
[00:17.29] Where you can check in if you're well to do well
[00:21.23] The first of July and a hundred and four
[00:24.82] I stopped at the Plaza's front revolving door
[00:28.84] I stepped in the door and went around for a ride
[00:32.80] Treatin' myself to the cool air inside
[00:36.89] Then I found myself in a chandeliered room
[00:40.57] Where people were dining and I hid in the gloom
[00:44.23] My hunger pains hurt 'til I thought I would break
[00:48.13] When a waiter brought out a big strawberry cake
[00:53.33] Oh that strawberry cake
[00:57.31] Oh that strawberry cake
[01:01.20] Out in California them berries were grown
[01:04.82] And into this city them berries were flown
[01:08.63] For making that strawberry cake
[01:14.88] Then I thought of Oxnard, just north of LA
[01:18.66] Where I picked strawberries for many a day
[01:22.32] Hard work with no future for the harvest was done
[01:26.62] And I headed eastward a-travelin' by thumb
[01:30.69] And nobody wanted me here in this town
[01:34.20] I felt like a stray dog they all kick around
[01:38.10] Them berries reminded me of my bad breaks
[01:41.94] I'm hungry and I want that strawberry cake
[01:47.37] I deserve that strawberry cake
[01:50.96] Deserve that strawberry cake
[01:54.10] I ran and I grabbed it then out the side door
[01:58.62] Into Central Park through the bushes I tore
[02:02.99] Holdin' my strawberry cake
[02:08.78] I look back behind me and what do I see
[02:12.46] The chef and headwaiter and the maître d
[02:16.24] I had a nice helpin' of cake as I ran
[02:20.24] I gobble them berries as fast as I can
[02:23.94] They're closin' the gap as I slowed down to eat
[02:27.98] But the cake brought a new surge of power to my feet
[02:31.75] I hid in the bush when the lead I did take
[02:35.50] And I quietly finished my strawberry cake
[02:40.79] I ate all that strawberry cake
[02:44.44] That fine fancy strawberry cake
[02:48.46] Someone at the plaza is without dessert
[02:52.00] But for the first time in days now my belly don't hurt
[02:56.07] I'm full of strawberry cake
[03:01.48]
